Bela Petheo was born in 1934 in Budapest, Hungary where he earned a Master's degree in art history from Eotvos Lorant University followed by an assistantship at the Museum of Fine Arts under Andrew Pigler, (Barockthemen). In 1957 he escaped the brutal Soviet occupation. While in Vienna, Austria, he was awarded a Rockefeller scholarship to study simultaneously at Karl Lueger University and the Academy of Fine Arts under Albert Paris Gutersloh. Dr. Robert O. Fisch (painter/writer) Read more...
As a Jewish man who survived Nazi concentration camps, Dr. Robert O. Fisch also participated in the revolution against Russian Communist suppression during his medical training in Budapest, Hungary. In 1956 he escaped to the United States and became an intern in 1957, and later a professor of pediatrics at the University of Minnesota. As a doctor of medicine he is known internationally for his clinical research on PKU, a genetic disorder.
He studied art in Budapest and Minnesota and has participated in numerous exhibits including a solo show at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. He has authored 4 books based on his life experiences and centering on the quest for freedom and is a frequent speaker on the subject.
