Flood Relief for Transylvania and Parajd Salt Mine Disaster
Dear Friends,
With deep sadness and heartfelt concern, we write to you in the wake of the devastating floods that have swept through parts of Transylvania, severely impacting the community of Parajd. The recent natural disaster has caused the collapse and flooding of the historic Parajd salt mine — a cornerstone of the local economy —and has forced more than 50 families to evacuate their homes. Countless residents have lost not only their livelihoods but also their sense of security.
This tragedy resonates deeply with our Hungarian-American community in Minnesota, which has long maintained strong ties with the people in that region. At this critical time, we stand together in empathy and solidarity.
We are launching an emergency fundraising effort to aid the affected families and support recovery efforts.
THE MINNESOTA HUNGARIANS WILL MATCH EVERY DOLLAR DONATED up to $1,000 — DOUBLING THE IMPACT OF YOUR GENEROSITY.
All contributions will go directly to those in need.
Our Honorary Consul of Hungary to Minnesota, Csilla Grauzer, will personally visit the devastated area at the end of June to deliver our community support and compassion in person.
Your kindness and support during this difficult time will bring comfort and hope to many who are struggling. Let us come together to show that even across oceans, we are one community.
With gratitude,
Gabriella Sinka Heath, President of the Minnesota Hungarians
Csilla Grauzer, Honorary Consul of Hungary to Minnesota
Board of Directors of the Minnesota Hungarians
